YMCA Youth and Government Program

The YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas is honored by The Hersh Foundation’s support of our signature program for middle and high school students, Youth and Government.

Youth and Government (YG) is a youth-led civic engagement program for 6th-12th grade students that occurs during the academic year, through on-campus clubs and YMCA branch locations. The program’s focus is educating teens on the mechanics of the state legislative and judicial processes of government, through bill writing, policy debate and political awareness. The goal of the program is to create responsible citizens and future leaders who become engaged civically and build self-confidence through public speaking, constructive debate and critical thinking skills. In 2017, approximately 1,250 students participated in the program at 69 unique club locations. Support from The Hersh Foundation helps the YMCA to provide financial aid to students who cannot afford to attend program conferences
